First Indian Open Para Games – from 2ndMay to 9th May 2015 – Delhi
It is both pleasure and pride for me to inform that the proposal of PCI for holding the First Indian Open Para Games in March 2015 has been considered and agreed to by the Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports, Department of Sports, with the approval of the Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports, vide their letter dated 4th Sept, 2014.
This is indeed great news for all Para Athletes in this country which would give them the much needed competition exposure as well as bring the efforts of PCI to bring about social inclusivity through their core philosophy of Sports for Development (S4D).
You would also be glad to hear that the new office bearers/ Executive Committee has taken the initiative with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for taking steps to promote sports for Para athletes and thus put “Para Sports” in the Priority Category to enable the athletes to get maximum amount of financial assistance in accordance with the Scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations.
The National Para Games 2015 would enable our Para Athletes to compete with South Asian/Asian and European Athletes which would enhance their performance with better competition. In addition they would also be a Seminar conducted with the assistance of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
PCI on the other hand would endeavour to co-ordinate with concerned State Government and other institutions/agencies for securing all the support required for hosting a good and successful Games. This will further boost the efforts of PCI of holding various International Competitions as well as training camps within the country and act as an fillip to Para Athletes to gain the much needed competitive edge and attain higher standards as well.
The time now starts for all of us to put in all out efforts, work in a coordinated manner and take responsibilities for making the National event as a showcase of the ability of the disabled in Sports and Society.
All State Federations/Units are requested to contact Secretary General, PCI for further information and assistance.
In view of General elections in New Delhi the government officials requested us to have the 1st Indian Open Para Games 2015 postponed and we had proposed them an alternative date of April 27th to 3rd May 2015 and accordingly we had requested the same with International Paralympic Committee officials.
Today we have received a mail from IPC that May 2nd to 9th 2015 will be suitable to them. It is now proposed to have the event from May 2nd to 9th 2015.
This is for your information and necessary action at your end.
